When people take time out of their lives to make a difference in their community, it is inspiring. I’ve heard from young people in California who were inspired to vote for the first time so that they could support John. That is making a difference. As the election results came in early this morning, John shared the following message:
“Sharon and I have been deeply moved by the many expressions of goodwill and support that we have received both publicly and privately since we launched my candidacy to represent the 8th district in the U.S. Congress. I have so many people to thank.
So many of you gave of your time and talents to help me in this campaign. Our daughter Jackie worked nonstop for months behind the curtains fixing whatever needed fixing and being very patient and loving with her pops. Our old friend Eve Hermanson-Donlan was ready around the clock to aid in any way we would ask.
Brothers such as Patrick Brannon, Carl Posey, Mike Esposito and Boni Solis made generous financial contributions. Diane Dames, Cherie Peil, Al Morrissette, Bill Tuck Jr and many others were influential in their sphere of influence. Deja Dames, Alexis Garcia, Kariauna Calvin and a host of others were instrumental in the best social media campaign this area has ever seen.
I will never be able to thank each of you the way my heart longs to. I want each of you to know that I have been honored to serve on our local college board and work with our young people in the community that I have come to love.
If I had won that congressional seat, I ultimately would have had to spend most of my time in Washington, DC. I can promise you, that although our children and grandchildren are temporarily stationed there at Bolling Air Force Base, living 3000 miles from our family home in Pinon Hills was not something I was looking forward to.
But my Everything, Sharon, was ready to go with me on that mission of service. Funny, I actually saw a bounce in her step as I watched her on her morning walk here on her own desert preserve this morning as if a burden had been lifted from her. For that I am thankful.
For the opportunity to serve my community in my Nation’s capital that has escaped my grasp, I am disappointed. But I can promise you that my loss is not the end of the world; not yours, not mine.
I encourage each of you to follow your dreams. Express the love and beauty that God has put in each of our hearts. Remember He created us for a purpose and has given us a life to fulfill that purpose. I believe that purpose is to be a blessing to others and I can assure you, that too many of you to name here have been a blessing to me.
P.S. Sharon J Pinkerton you are my Everything, and you proved it once again. I will always love you.”
Thank you, Pinkertons! Godspeed and best wishes your future endeavors.
